U_CAN: Ukraine towards Carbon Neutrality
The project is funded by the European Commission (EUR 5 million).
Timeframe: 2024 – 2028.
The project is designed for 42 months and is being implemented by a consortium of organisations from the EU and Ukraine.
The aim of the project is to help Ukrainian cities decarbonise key areas of urban life.
As part of the consortium, our team is responsible for disseminating and promoting the principles of climate neutrality in the field of district heating and water supply.
The part of the project that our team is responsible for is the selection of 4 communities with different geographies and the development of a roadmap for their transition to the use of biomass in district heating. The roadmap will be created on the basis of current Ukrainian legislation and will in fact be a comprehensive opinion on the technical, legal, financial and other aspects of modernising district heating systems. The local fuel market will also be studied, a database of potential biomass suppliers and approximate volume estimates will be created.
In addition, a methodology and basic tools for automating calculations will be created that will allow other communities in Ukraine to independently develop similar district heating modernisation roadmaps and find the resources to implement them.
RCSD team: dissemination of U_CAN project results, development of district heating modernisation roadmaps, development of pilot projects in target communities.
